A cancer diagnosis can change the way a person looks at life forever. For Manisha Koirala, the moment she learnt about her stage IV ovarian cancer became one of the darkest and loneliest phases of her life.
Years later, the actress has opened up about what went through her mind that night and how the experience completely changed her priorities, her relationship with work and the way she wanted to live.
Manisha Koirala Recalls The Night Her Cancer Diagnosis Changed Everything
Manisha was at Norvic International Hospital in Nepal when she received the diagnosis. What followed was an intensely emotional night, with the actress recalling that she felt death was suddenly very close.
She described that phase as extremely lonely and frightening, saying the experience made her realise just how isolated a cancer patient can feel, even when people are around them.
The diagnosis was eventually followed by treatment in New York at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Manisha completed her treatment in 2013 and later returned to acting.
From Long Working Hours To Choosing A More Meaningful Life
Before her illness, Manisha had spent years working at an exhausting pace, juggling multiple films and extremely long working days. Looking back, she admitted that she had reached a point where she felt tired and bored with her work.
Cancer changed that mindset. After getting what she described as a second chance at life, she began putting non-essential things aside and started valuing close friendships, nature and simply having time to enjoy life.
At the same time, the support she received from audiences during her treatment made her realise that acting still held an important place in her life. The messages and goodwill from people reminded her of the impact her work had made over the years.
Manisha Koirala’s Cancer Journey Became A Lesson In Gratitude
The actress has previously spoken about how her cancer journey pushed her towards deeper self-reflection and changed the way she viewed life. Her recovery also became an important part of her decision to speak openly about cancer and offer hope to others facing the disease.
Today, Manisha Koirala’s story is not just about surviving a difficult diagnosis. It is also about rebuilding priorities, appreciating ordinary moments and choosing a life that feels more meaningful.
